Think I Might Run For Mayer...

By this point you should already be largely familiar with Mayer Hawthorne. Emerging out of just about no where in a large way earlier this year with a soul sound so absolutely refreshing it’s a wonder he hasn’t already exploded into the general mainstream. To listen to his crooning voice come crackling (*Hand claps for serious alliteration there.) across a record is to be returned to a land of matching suits and bands like the Temptations and the O’Jays. I’m not sure how this man got his start in music or if perhaps maybe he is the long lost 6th brother of the Jackson family but whatever it was that gave him his soul and inspiration it surely succeeded.

Maybe So Maybe No is possibly Hawthorne’s strongest record and the good folks over at Stones Throw have put together this little end of summer video accompaniment for the track. This just goes to further the appeal of Hawthorne. What exactly does 80’s era flat ground skateboarding, Rod Dyrdek and Venice Beach have to do with this record? Well at face value absolutely nothing but when you see a slightly goofy Hawthorne walking across the set it all just seems to work out quite nicely.
